Character: Drowned Ophelia Video Game: Brutal Legend
About the Costume: I'll admit it, this was a frustrating costume to make, but I loved this game so much that I was very driven to complete it. I wanted to both expedite the application of the blue bodypaint and give the black dress something I could tack to, to keep it in place, so I made a light blue, sheer bodysuit. I still needed to apply bodypaint (Snazaroo brand, along with Setting Spray) but the bodysuit also helped protect the paint from smudging off at all. Over that I made a hobble-skirt dress from jet black, matte lycra, and proceeded to hack and slash through it to match the style of the game's concept art. The tendrils were made from the same black fabric with 16 gauge wire running through it, allowing for the twisting, curling effect. The spikey headdress is a series of the same wire, sandwiched and adhered between two layers of the black fabric and attaches to the dress via velcro for easy transportation.
About the Picture: This picture was all I wanted for this costume, and was worth the limited mobility I had in this dress! This 'Drowned' version of the character happens after Ophelia throws herself into the Sea of Black Tears, so (spoiler warning?) when she comes back into the game as an adversary, she's all goth'd up with darkness and shadow bleeding out from around her. I love the shadow effect in this photo, which was created by a lightbox upon the floor.
Ok got to admit i thought it was a drawing from the thumbnail til i looked at it and WOW! Great cosplay, thatd doesnt look easy to wear or move in but great job! Now you just need the others (Eddie, Deviculous and such) for a sure win at a con!
