About the Costume: This costume was all about the details. It took me much longer to make than I thought it would! Armor aside, it's two pieces: tailcoat and bodysuit. All of the fabric (save the gold piping) started out white - I hand-dyed it all to match in-game references. The tailcoat is a pattern I drafted myself. Snake-scale lycra, gold piping, white suede. The piping was a nuisance, but it came out looking much better than I expected! The bodysuit is the same snake-scale lycra, stretch lace, golg piping, white suede, the lilac is milliskin lycra, and the wine colored collar is silk. It's all one piece. I created this by making a mock-up bodysuit that I put on my dressform, then simply drew on the costume design. I cut the mock-up up, and used that as my pattern, adding a seam allowance. Every stitch was reinforced and topstitched. The wig was cut by me! The gauntlet and bracers are made out of Wonderflex covered in gold lycra. The claw fingertips are thimbles (covered in epoxy putty to get rid of the ridges) with Wonderflex for the claws. The snake-head pauldron is made from a Wonderflex and craft foam base, carved insulation foam for the snakehead and skull, and the snakes are Model Magic. The sword is made from coil conduit, insulation foam for the guard and blades (the blades are covered with ABS, too), a dowel for the hilt, and bits of ABS for the decorations. The sword does NOT retract, though I have plans to make one that does! I just need the funding, now.
About the Picture: AnimazeGuy was great to work with. Even though we got kicked out of our ideal location, he made it work, and made me feel comfortable even though we had just met! That's what's key - in comfort, the confidence and the character is so much easier to express. This photo absolutely screams Ivy Valentine to me! I love it, cause when I saw this redesign of her costume for SCV last year, I felt they finally designed the character right again - all leather and lace and snakes, oh yeah!
Costumes like yours inspire me to work harder and push myself on projects I work on. This is BRILLIANT work and your finished product is just mind blowing.
